Been thinking a lot lately about style of worship and reading Mark Pierson's book "The Art of Curating Worship" as my text. I haven't completed the book, but there's something here that makes me ponder...
Is worship for God?
Is worship for those who produce it?
Is worship for those who participate in it?
Is worship a collective whole, for God, for the producers, for the participants?
If it's only for God - the honest truth is God doesn't need worship, we do.
If it's only for the producers of worship, then worship can happen in a vacuum - producers only
If it's only for participants, then we who produce are only putting on a show and we might as well pay professionals to entertain.
If it's collaborative, collective, then the mess begins! It may not be elegant, excellent, but it will be our best human effort held in God's loving hands. We, together, offer to God what we feel, see, sense, know, and God holds it as a precious gift - just like I imperfectly did when my children made me something because they loved me.
It doesn't mean we dont' do our best.
But it does mean we won't be perfect or totally polished. Roughness will show.
And isn't that just chic?
